מכתב מהחבר עלי בן עמרם אל הרופא אברהם בן פֻראת הכהן. כתוב בעברית ובערבית-יהודית. תיארוך: 1051–1062 לספירה, שכן דניאל בן עזריה מוזכר בו בתואר גאון. עלי פותח בשיר חרוז ארוך לכבוד הנמען, ולאחר מכן מתלונן על בדידותו ומתנצל על שאינו יכול לבוא אל הנמען באופן אישי, מאחר שאין ביכולתו לעזוב את משרדו (דֻכּאן) ללא השגחה ואין מי שימלא את מקומו. מאן, שפרסם את המכתב לראשונה, פירש את המילה "דֻכּאן" במשמעות "חנות"; ואילו גויטיין הצביע על כך שייתכן והכוונה למשרדו של ראש קהילה.
Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from the ḥaver ʿEli b. ʿAmram to the physician Avraham b. Furāt ha-Kohen. In Hebrew and Judaeo-Arabic. Dating: 1051–62 CE, as Daniel b. ʿAzarya is invoked as gaʾon. ʿEli opens with a long rhymed poem in honor of the addressee, then goes on to complain about his loneliness and apologize for not being able to come to the addressee in person, as he is unable to leave his office (dukkān) unattended and nobody can take his place. Mann originally published this letter and interpreted dukkān as "shop"; Goitein pointed out that it can also mean the office of a communal leader.
