תיאור

מכתב מיהודה הלוי בטולדו אל חלפון בן נתנאל, בעניין גביית כספים באל-אנדלוס לצורך פדיון שבויה. תאריך משוער: ככל הנראה אוגוסט-ספטמבר 1138. הכותב מנסה לגייס את שארית הסכום הדרוש לפדיון השבויה, ככל הנראה אותה שבויה שעליה הוא כותב לחלפון במכתב אחר (ח35). הוא מבקש מחלפון לפנות אל "קרוביי הנסמכים על חסדך" ואל צאחב אלשרטה (ראש המשטרה), אבו אבראהים בן ברון. כמו כן הוא מבקש מחלפון לסייע ליהודי שאיבד את רכושו, את בריאותו ואת מאור עיניו, והנמצא הרחק ממשפחתו וממולדתו. לבסוף, הוא מבקש את עזרתו של חלפון בהשגת תשובה מאבן מיגאש לשאלה שהפנו אליו יהודי טולדו. מכך ניתן להסיק שחלפון התגורר באותה עת בלוסנה, מקום מושבו של אבן מיגאש.

Princeton Geniza Project description: IB IV, 37 (ח36). Letter from Yehuda ha-Levi in Toledo to Ḥalfon b. Netanel regarding the collection of funds in al-Andalus for the ransom of a captive woman. Dating: probably August-September 1138. The writer attempts to raise the rest of the funds needed to redeem the captive, probably the same one about whom he writes to Ḥalfon in ח35 (PGPID 9086). He asks Ḥalfon to turn to "my relatives who depend on your grace" and the צאחב אלשרטה (chief of the police), Abū Ibrāhīm b. Barūn. He also asks Ḥalfon to help a Jew who has lost his property, health and eyesight and is far from his family and homeland. Finally, he asks for Halfon's help obtaining an answer from Ibn Migash to the question asked by the Jews of Toledo. From this we deduce that Ḥalfon was living in Lucena, where Ibn Migash was.
