T-S AS 145.81 + T-S 13J23.18

מכתב מיוסף בן מוסא אלתאהרתי, ששוגר ממהדיה, אל ישועה בן אסמאעיל אלמח'מורי בפסטאט. המכתב מזכיר את אבו אבראהים (יצחק) בן ח'לף, שכתב לאלתאהרתי כדי להודיעו שהוא שלח שקיק ובו 500 רבאעיה (רבעי דינר) בספינתו של אבן אלבעבאע (בצד הפנים, שורות 10–11). כמו כן נזכרים בו פרטים על הובלה ימית מן המגרב ואליו, על תאונת ספינות, ועל מצב הביטחון והשלטון בסיציליה — אסון ימי שבו היו מעורבות ספינותיהם של אבן אלעואד ואבן שבלון, אם כי הכותב מציין שאין בידיו פרטים על מה שאירע ועל היקף האבדות. המכתב כולל פרטים על המצב המדיני והביטחוני בסיציליה, אף שהמסחר עם סיציליה ממשיך להתקיים, ומציין כי מהדיה תחת שלטונו של תמים בן מועז בטוחה. המכתב נושא תאריך של סוף חודש שבט; לפי גיל, אותם אירועים נידונים גם במכתב אחר הנושא תאריך של ח' באלול ומזכיר את שנת 453 להג'רה, ולפיכך מתוארך מכתבנו ל-2 בפברואר 1063. החלק התחתון של המכתב והחלק העליון (שורות 1–4) שמורים בנפרד.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from Yūsuf b. Mūsā al-Tāhartī, to Yeshuaʿ b. Ismāʿīl al-Makhmūrī. Mentions Abū Ibrāhīm (Isḥāq) b. Khalaf, who had written to tell al-Tāhartī that he had sent a pouch containing 500 rubāʿiyya (quarter-dinars) in Ibn al-Baʿbāʿ's ship (r, II. 10–11); also mentions details of maritime transport to and from the Maghreb, a ship accident, and the security and government situation in Sicily, whereas by contrast al-Mahdiyya under Tamīm b. Muʿizz is safe. Dated end of Shevaṭ; Gil notes that the same events are discussed in T-S 16.163, which is dated 8 Elul and mentions the year 453H, and so dates this letter to February 2, 1063. The writer does not have any details about what happened and about the losses. Also mentions details about a shipment in the sea from and to the Maghreb. The letter contains details about the political and security situation in Sicily even though the trades with Sicily are still going on. Mentions that Mahdiyya is secure.
