מכתב מאת נחמיה הכהן, גאון פומבדיתא, ככל הנראה אל הקהילה הבבלית בפוסטאט. מתוארך לכסלו 1274 למניין השטרות = נובמבר 962 לסה"נ. הכותב מבקש סיוע כספי עבור הישיבה. נזכרת בו פטירתו של אחי הכותב, חפני, אב בית הדין של הישיבה. המכתב משקף מתחים בין סיעות שונות בתוך הישיבה, ומכיל פולמוס נגד "כחשון ושבירה", כלומר נחשון ושרירא (בן חנניה, הגאון לעתיד). נחמיה מתלונן כי מכתבו הקודם זכה להתעלמות, ומבקש לחלוק כבוד לשליחו, שלמה בן עלי, המכונה אבן טבנאי (המידע מבוסס על גיל ועל אתר הגניזה הבודליאני). בצד האחורי, יד אחרת זיהתה את כותב המכתב והעתיקה ביטוי קצר מתוכו.
Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from Neḥemya ha-Kohen, Gaʾon of Pumbedita, probably to the Babylonian community in Fustat. Dated: Kislev 1274 Sel. = November 962 CE. Asks for financial assistance to the academy. Mentions the death of the writer’s brother Ḥofni, Av Bet Din of the academy. Reflects tensions between different factions within the academy. Polemicizes against "Kaḥshon and Shevira" i.e. Naḥshon and Sherira (b. Ḥananya, the future Gaʾon). He complains that his former letter had been disregarded, and requests to show honour to his messenger, Shelomo b. ʿEli, known as b. Ṭavnay.
