מכתב מהקהילה היהודית של קפצה (גפצה) שבתוניסיה אל יוסף בן יעקב. בערבית-יהודית. תיארוך: סביב שנת 1016 לסה"נ, שכן נזכר בו כיבוש העיר (או הגעתו אליה?) של מנצור בן רשיק, אותו מנצור ששימש כעאמל (מושל) של קירואן בשנת 1016, השנה שבה עלה אלמֻעִז בן באדיס לשלטון. גיל זיהה את הנמען כיוסף בן יעקב אבן עוכל, אך גויטיין חלק עליו (על פי כרטסת הקיטלוג שלו). הנמען מתבקש לעשות טובה כלשהי או להתערב בעניין מסוים; גיל הניח כי מדובר במס הגולגולת (ג'זיה), אך לא ברור שהדבר אכן מוזכר במכתב. המכתב פגוע מאוד, אך ייתכן שניתן יהיה לחלץ ממנו מידע נוסף תוך מאמץ רב.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from the Jewish community of Qafṣa (Gafsa), Tunisia, to Yosef b. Yaʿaqov. In Judaeo-Arabic. Dating: Ca. 1016 CE, as it mentions Manṣūr b. Rashīq's conquest of (or arrival in?) the town, and this Manṣūr was the governor (ʿāmil) of Qayrawān in the year 1016 when al-Muʿizz b. Bādīs came to power. Gil identified the addressee as Yosef b. Yaʿaqov Ibn ʿAwkal, but Goitein disagreed (per his index card). The addressee is asked for a favor or intervention of some kind; Gil assumed that it had to do with the capitation tax, but it is not clear that this is actually mentioned in the letter.
