מכתב משפחתי מאח אל אחותו, ובו הוא מנסה להניא אותה מלהינשא לאדם מסוים שאותו הוא מתאר כמי שאינו "לא יהודי, לא נוצרי ולא מוסלמי". לדבריו, האיש "גנב 15 [דינרים?] מאדם מסוריה, בא לכאן וקנה בכסף הזה סחורות". השולח מאיים לנתק כל קשר עם אחותו ועם בני משפחתה אם הנישואין יתממשו. הוא כותב כי "מוטב היה שתימכר לפראנג'ים (אל-אפראנג') או שתינשא לכושים (אל-סודאן) מאשר שתיקרא על שמו... זהו דבר שאפילו המשוגעים (אל-מג'אנין) לא היו עושים". בסוף המכתב הוא פונה לאבו אל-רצ'א (ככל הנראה בעלה של הנמענת?) ומבקש ממנו להשיב את אחותו לדרך הישר ולדבר על ליבה. Princeton Geniza Project description: Family letter from a brother to his sister trying to dissuade her from marrying a certain man whom he describes as being "not a Jew, nor a Christian, nor a Muslim." The man "stole 15 [dinars?] from a man from Syria and came here and bought goods with it." The sender threatens to cut off all relations with his sister and her family if the marriage goes through. "It would be better to for her to be sold to the Franks (al-ifranj) or married to the blacks (al-sūdān) rather than to be known by his name. . . . this is something not even crazy people (al-majānīn) would do." At the end of the letter he turns to addressing Abū l-Riḍā (the addressee's husband?) and tells him to talk sense into her. (Information in part from Mediterranean Society, V, pp. 334, 548)
