קטע מפנקס בית דין הכולל שרידים של 13 מסמכים, שרובם שלמים. מתוארך לחודשי טבת-כסלו ה'ת"ס, שהם 1699-1700 לסה"נ. כתב היד של הסופר וכן רבים משמות המשפחה אינם נפוצים בקהיר, מה שמרמז על כך שהקטע מקורו ככל הנראה בקהילה יהודית במקום אחר באימפריה העות'מאנית (המֵדִין הכסוף העות'מאני נזכר לאורך הרשומות). עם זאת, ייתכן גם שמדובר בפנקס בית דין השייך לבית דין ו/או לקהילה בקהיר שמסמכיהם לא שרדו בכמויות גדולות מתחילת המאה השמונה עשרה. אזכור אפשרי של "רובע הקראים" בקהיר מופיע במסמך 9 בצד ה-verso. רשומות המסמכים בצד ה-recto כוללות: (1) שותפות עִסְקָא בין סולימאן טראבולסי ויהודה ביכי(?). (2) שותפות כללית במסחר באלמוגים למשך שנה: "במלאכת אלמרגאן לזמן י"ב חדשים" (שורה 18). יתר רשומות בית הדין ב-recto עוסקות באירוסין הכוללים התחייבויות מתנות נישואין מהחתנים לכלות וכן נדוניות: (3) אירוסי משה ב"ר יוסף הכהן וכלה לעתיד המופיעה בשני שמות שונים: סעודי המכונה רחמה בת שמואל ראשי/דאשי(?); (4) אירוסי יעקב ב"ר רחמים הכהן קמאט ומסעודה בת יוסף הלוי בר-ביכה(?); (5) אירוסי משה ב"ר יעקב הלוי וריינה בת אליהו רמוך(?); (6) אירוסי אברהם תלמיד וסת אלבית בת בנימין פרנציה. ה-verso כולל את הרשומות הבאות: (7) רשומה חלקית הקובעת כי יצחק אשכנזי מקבל סכום כסף מלאה בת ____(?) עתרותי. (8) רשומה חלקית שבה סעדיה אנג'ל מתחייב ללמוד את "מלאכת הסירמקג'י" עם שמואל מאנופלה/מאנופלה. בהתבסס על הסיומת, המונח המקצועי כאן הוא ככל הנראה הטורקי "sırmakçı" (יצרן או רוקם של חוטי זהב או כסף), שהוא מילה נרדפת למונח "sırmakeş" במילון רדהאוס (עמ' 1014). (8) העתק כתובה מקוצר לנישואי משה ב"ר יחיאל מיוחס ופרלה בת גבריאל פרנסז (פראנשיז). (9) הסכם שכירות למספר נכסים, שחלקם רשומים ב"רובע הקראים". שני הצדדים בעסקה הם ברוך ב"ר אהרן יואב ויוסף ב"ר ישועה הלוי. הנכס הראשון ברשימה "הכמארה" אינו ברור במשמעותו המכוונת. ייתכן שמדובר במונח האדריכלי הלטיני "camera" (חדר, חדר מקומר). (10) אירוסי הדיין יעקב ב"ר דוד הלוי והגרושה סהור(?) בת אברהם חמוזי. (11) הודאת חוב בין יעקב ב"ר שם טוב מלמד ואברהם ב"ר שלמה בנטורה/בינטורה. (12) שותפות בין מרדכי אשכנזי ושמואל ב"ר יצחק ____ (שם המשפחה אבד עקב נזק). השותפות היא ב"מלאכת אלכואגייה/אלכואנייה", הדורשת מחקר נוסף לקביעת ההקשר המקצועי המדויק.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Court register fragment containing the remnants of 13 documents, most of which are fully intact. Dated Tevet-Kislev 5460 AM which is 1699-1700 CE. The scribal hand and many of the surnames are uncommon for Cairo, pointing to the likelihood that this fragment is from a Jewish community elsewhere in the Ottoman Empire (the Ottoman silver medin is mentioned throughout the entries). It is also possible that this court register fragment is from a beit din and/or a congregation in Cairo whose documents have not survived in large quantities from the turn of the eighteenth century CE. A possible reference to the "Karaite quarter" of Cairo appears in document 9 on the verso. The document entries on the recto include (1) An isqa partnership between Suleymān Ṭrabulusī and Yehuda Bikhī(?). (2) A general partnership in the coral trade for the duration of one year: במלאכת אלמרגאן לזמן י׳ב חדשים (l.18). The other court entries on the recto recount engagements that include pledges of marital gifts from grooms to brides and bridal dowries: (3) Engagement of Moshe b. Yosef ha-Kohen and a prospective bride who appears by two different names: Saʾūdī aka Raḥma bt. Shemuʾel Rashī/Dashī(?); (4) Engagement of Yaʿaqov b. Raḥamīm ha-Kohen Qmāṭ and Masʿūda bt. Yosef ha-Levi Bar-Bīkha(?); (5) Engagement of Moshe b. Yaʿaqov ha-Levi and Reyna bt. Eliyahu Rmūkh(?); (6) Engagement of Avraham Talmīd and Sitt al-Bayt bt. Benyamin Franṣiya. The verso includes the following document entries: (7) An incomplete entry stating that a certain Yiṣḥaq Ashenazi receives a sum of money from Leah bt. ____(?) ʿAtarūtī. (8) An incomplete entry stating that Saʿadīya Angel commits to study the "מלאכת הסירמקג'י" with Shemuʾel Mānūpla/Mānūfla. Based on the suffix, the professional term here is probably Turkish "sırmakçı" (a maker or embroiderer of gold or silver thread), synonymous with the term "sırmakeş" in the Redhouse dictionary (p. 1014). (8) Abbreviated ketubba copy for the marriage of Moshe b. Yeḥiʾel Meyūḥas and Perla bt. Gabriʾel Fransez (פראנשיז). (9) Rental agreement for various properties, some of which are listed in the "Karaite quarter." The two transacting parties are Barūkh b. Aharon Yoʾav and Yosef b. Yeshūʿa ha-Levi. The first property listed "הכמארה" is unclear in its intended meaning. It may be the Latinate architectural term "camera" (room, vaulted chamber). (10) Engagement of the dayyan Yaʿaqov b. David ha-Levi and the previously divorced/gerusha Sahūr(?) bt. Abraham Ḥamūzī. (11) Debt acknowledgment between Yaʿaqov b. Shem Ṭov Melamed and Avraham b. Shelomo Benṭora/Binṭora. For another instance of the latter surname, see: AIU VII.D.65 - PGPID 30561. (12) Partnership between Mordekhay Ashkenazi and Shemuʾel b. Yiṣḥaq ____ (surname lost to damage). The partnership is in the "במלאכת אלכואגייה/אלכואנייה", which requires further research to determine the exact professional context. MCD.
