תיאור

מסמך משפטי בעברית, מפוסטאט/קהיר, מיום שלישי כ' בתשרי ה'ת"ם (1679). המסמך עוסק ביעקב ראובן, אשר העסיק את יעקב מצליח בן יצחק המכונה קנפנטון בגביית והחלפת "מאל אלכרובגֿייה" (לא ברור במה מדובר) במהלך השנה האחרונה (אם כי בהמשך מתברר שתקופת ההעסקה הייתה שלוש שנים). מוזכר חוזה מיום שישי י"ד בתשרי של השנה הקודמת (ה'ת"ל = 1678), שנחתם או נערך (?) — המילה נראית כ"ומדיו" — בידי הסופרים יעקב אלפלאס ואברהם בן משה הכהן. נראה שהמסמך הנוכחי הוא שטר שחרור, המצהיר ששני הצדדים מילאו במלואן את חובותיהם זה כלפי זה. בתוך הדברים מוזכר כי יעקב ראובן היה מעורב בהלוואת כספים ל"אלגֿנאב אלעאלי אלאמיר צאלח אפנדי" (שורה 12). זהו מסמך ארוך הראוי לבדיקה נוספת. בשורה האחרונה נאמר כי הופקו שלושה עותקים, וזה שלפנינו ניתן ליעקב מצליח באופן ספציפי. לאישור פליאוגרפי של חתימתו המורכבת של בנימין שחאתה, ניתן להשוות למסמך אחר שבו הוא מתייחס לעצמו בגוף ראשון כסופר (בשורות 6, 9).

Princeton Geniza Project description: Legal document. In Hebrew. Location: Fustat/Cairo. Dated: Tuesday, 20 Tishrei 5440 AM, which is 1679 CE. Concerning Yaʿaqov Re'uven who had employed Yaʿaqov Maṣliaḥ b. Yiṣḥaq known as Qanpanṭon in the collecting and changing of מאל אלכרובגֿייה (unclear what this is) for the last year (though it later turns out that the period of employment has been three years). Mentions a contract dated Friday 14 Tishrei from the previous year (5439 AM = 1678 CE) that was signed or drawn up (? the word looks like ומדיו) by Yaʿaqov Alpalas the scribe and Avraham b. Moshe ha-Kohen the scribe. The present document seems to be a release, stating that the two parties have fully fulfilled their responsibilities toward one another. Along the way it is mentioned that Yaʿaqov Re'uven has been involved in loaning money to al-Jināb al-ʿĀlī al-Amīr Ṣāliḥ Effendi (line 12). This is a long document; merits further examination. The final line notes that three copies were issued, this one to Yaʿaqov Maṣliaḥ, specifically.
