מכתב אישי המופנה ליחיאל אלקהלאני [מאת יוסף בן שלום סימן] – מתוארך כ"ח בכסלו __96 (שתי הספרות הראשונות אינן קריאות במסמך). המכתב כתוב בעברית. שולח המכתב פונה אל הנמען על מנת לברר מדוע לא השיב למכתביו הקודמים, ומציין כי הוא מוכן לשלוח את התשלום. מאחר שרוב המסמכים המתוארכים השמורים באוסף המדובר הם מן המאה העשרים, הקריאה הסבירה ביותר של התאריך היא [ה'תרצ]"ו, כלומר 24 בדצמבר 1935. עם זאת, ייתכן גם שהשנה ניתנה לפי הספירה הנוצרית (אולי [18]96 לספירה) ואילו החודש והיום ניתנו לפי הספירה היהודית, כפי שמופיע במסמכים אחרים מן המאה ה-19 וה-20.

Shalom Siman] – 28 Kislev __96 [first two digits illegible on document] – Bassatine Cemetery – Museum of Islamic Art – (number 238) – in Hebrew. An original scan and translation of the letter is available in Al-Janiza wa-l-maʿābid al-Yahūdiyya fī Miṣr (pp. 203-207). The letter sender writes in order to ascertain why al-Qahlānī has not responded to previous letters and that he is ready to send payment. Given that most of the dated documents in the possession of the MIAC are twentieth-century the most likely reading of the date is [56]96 AM or December 24, 1935 CE. It is also possible that the year is Common Era dating (perhaps [18]96 CE) and the month/day are Anno Mundi as is the case in other 19th-20th-century documents, such as, MIAC 10). MCD.
