רשומה משפטית (מס' 71) מתוך פנקס בית דין קראי בקהיר. תאריך: ו' בכסלו ה'שכ"ד לבריאת העולם (1563 לסה"נ). הסכם העסקה שבו פרג'אללה בן יהודה הלוי מתחייב להעסיק את הנער (אלולד) עבד אלדאים בן עבד אלרחמן אלפולאדי בכל יום שישי עד חודש שבט ה'שכ"ה. סוג ההעסקה אינו מצוין במפורש, אך השכר היומי מפורט בשני שלבים: 3 מעדין ליום עד שבט ה'שכ"ד (במשך חודשיים), ולאחר מכן העלאה לשכר של 4 מעדין ליום עד שבט ה'שכ"ה (במשך שנה אחת). מאחר שעבד אלדאים מוזכר כקטין ומיוצג על ידי אביו בהסכם זה, ייתכן שמדובר היה בהסדר של חניכות מקצועית. למסמך רבני מהעת החדשה המוקדמת מאותו הז'אנר הכולל אף הוא העלאת שכר, ראו: ENA NS 29.19. הרשומה המשפטית כוללת תנאי שלפיו פרג'אללה "לא יניח לו (לעבד אלדאים) לצאת במשך תקופת הזמן המצוינת אלא מסיבה של פטור (בעדר // بعذر // bi-ʿudhr)". נראה כי הסדר זה מעניק לפרג'אללה את הסמכות לשחרר את הנער מן ההעסקה: אולי במקרה שהחניכות הפוטנציאלית לא תעלה יפה.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Legal record (#71) in a court register/pinqas from a Karaite beit din in Cairo (on f. 23v of Yevr.-Arab. I 328). Dating: 6 Kislev 5324 AM (1563 CE). Employment agreement, in which Farjallah b. Yehuda ha-Levi agrees to hire the boy (al-walad) ʿAbd al-Daʾīm b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Fulādī every Friday until Shevat 5325 AM. The type of employment is not stated but the daily wage is listed in two stages: 3 medin per day until Shevat 5324 (for two months) and then a pay-raise of 4 medin until Shevat 5325 AM (one year). Given that ʿAbd al-Daʾīm is mentioned as a minor and represented by his father in this agreement, it's possible that this employment arrangement was an apprenticeship. This legal record (#71) includes the stipulation that Farjallah "will not let him (ʿAbd al-Daʾīm) leave/exit for the stated period of time except for the reason of excusal (בעדר // بعذر // bi-ʿudhr)." This arrangement seems to give Farjallah the authority to release the boy from employment: perhaps in the event that the potential apprenticeship was not going well. MCD.
