תיאור

מכתב בערבית-יהודית, וככל הנראה על גב הדף שריד מהכתובת בכתב ערבי. המכתב ממוען לאדם בשם אבו אלחסין. הוא כולל סיפור מסקרן על חרטתו של השולח מכך שביקש את עזרתו של הנמען, על אבו סעיד בן ת'אבת הדיין שהלשין על דבר-מה ל"סיידנא" (אדוננו), וכיצד אין זו הדרך שאליה הורגלו בימי "ראס אלמתיבה" המנוח. מישהו התנהג "כאילו נהרג אדם", והכריח את השולח להישבע שבועות חמורות שלא יתגורר בשום מקום במצרים מלבד אלכסנדריה — והשולח נכנע לדרישה (קלת אלסמע ואלטאעה — אמרתי: שמיעה וציות). את החלק התחתון של הדף תיאר גויטיין (לפני החיבור בין הקטעים) כ"מכתב שבו מזמינים קרובי משפחתו של הכותב להתארח אצלם בארץ נוצרית, אך נראה שהוא סירב להזמנה. נכתב מבנהא שבמצרים התחתית, בעת מסעו של הכותב לאלכסנדריה. הכותב מתאר כיצד נגנבו בגדיו במהלך נסיעותיו. מתוארך לסביבות המאה השתים-עשרה." Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter in Judaeo-Arabic, probably with a remnant of the address in Arabic script on verso. Addressed to a certain Abū l-Ḥusayn. Containing an intriguing tale about the sender's regret for seeking the addressee's help, Abū Saʿīd b. Thābit the judge tattling about something to Sayyidnā, and how this isn't what they were used to in the days of the late Raʾs al-Mathība. Someone acted "as if someone had been killed" and made the sender take mighty oaths that he would live nowhere in Egypt except Alexandria, to which the sender acquiesced (קלת אלסמע ואלטאעה). The lower part of the page was described by Goitein (pre-join) as a "letter in which relatives of the writer invited him to stay with them in a Christian land but he appears to have declined. Written from Benha, Lower Egypt, on the writer's way to Alexandria. The writer describes how his clothing was stolen on his travels. Dated ca. twelfth century."
