Princeton Geniza Project description: Fiscal document(s) in Arabic script. Bifolio. One entry on each page of recto. The right side is concerning the transport and fiscal administration of agricultural goods. The text opens with a basmala and records an order for the conveyance of goods to the granaries (shūn) of a district in Fustat from the state granaries (anbār sulṭāniyya) in the Manūfiyya province. The shipment appears to have been designated for the account of the Sāqiyat of Dijwa, while transportation costs were to be covered by the dīwān treasury, indicating state financing of logistical operations. The document further mentions shipment aboard a vessel (markab al-ḥaḍārī; also mentioned in PGPID 37954, l.5) owned by the ship captain (raʾīs) ʿAlī b. Yūsuf b. al-Muqīm, who formally acknowledges receipt (on the left side) of an advance payment (salaf), recorded as two hundred ṣukūk? and testifies to having taken possession of the consignment. References to wheat (qamḥ) and repeated fiscal notations suggest an accounting function, likely connected to the movement of agrarian produce from provincial granaries to state-controlled storage facilities. Could also possibly be an example of the integration of private transportation into the fiscal infrastructure. The Verso is almost blank apart from a few signatures on top of the left-hand page.
