מכתב ששלח טוביה בן עלי הכהן, הכותב מן הכפר, אל בן דודו הדיין נתן בן שלמה הכהן. תאריך משוער: 1122–1150, על פי המסמכים המתוארכים של הנמען. הכתיבה היא בתערובת של ערבית-יהודית ועברית, כאשר העברית משמשת בעיקר בעת דיון בנושאים רגישים. המכתב מתאר את מעשי הביזה (נהב), את הרעב, ואת רדיפת היהודים שבאה בעקבותיהם, ועוסק במגוון רחב של עניינים ציבוריים ופרטיים נוספים. בצד השני (verso) מוסר טוביה עדכון קצר על מצבה של אשתו: היא מתאוששת ממחלתה — התקפים מסתוריים של צמרמורת ותחושות חום בוערות (ראו גם מסמכים נוספים המתעדים את אותה מחלה) — אך עודנה אינה יכולה לסבול קרבה לאש או שהייה במטבח. המידע מבוסס על גויטיין, חברה ים-תיכונית, כרך ה'.
Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter sent by Ṭoviya b. ʿEli ha-Kohen, writing from the countryside to his cousin, the judge Natan b. Shelomo ha-Kohen. Dating: 1122–50, based on the dated documents of the addressee. In a mix of Judaeo-Arabic and Hebrew, the latter used especially for sensitive topics. The letter describes the pillage (nahb), famine, and the persecution of the Jews it entailed and describing many other public and private issues. On verso, Ṭoviya gives a brief update on his wife's condition: she is emerging from her illness (mysterious attacks of chills and burning sensations, see T-S 12.234 and Bodl.
