מכתב מסבהּ של נערה יתומה העומדת להינשא, אל סבהּ השני, ובו תזכורת על התחייבויותיו הכספיות כלפי הנערה בסך 50 דינרים — התחייבות שנשבע עליה לבנו הגוסס, אביה של הנערה. הכותב מזהיר את הנמען כי לא יוכל לשמור על מעמדו ויוקרתו (ג'אה) כאחד מ'זקני האומה' (שיוח' אלמלה) כאשר נכדיו נישאים כעניים מרודים. המכתב נכתב על פיסת קלף צרה, כאשר הצד הקדמי והצד האחורי כתובים בזווית של 90 מעלות זה ביחס לזה — דבר שייתכן ומהווה סימן של חוסר כבוד כלפי הנמען. לא נשתמרו שמות. Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from the grandfather of an orphaned girl who is about to marry, to her other grandfather, reminding him of his financial obligations (50 dinars) to the girl, which he made under oath to his dying son, the girl’s father. He warns him that he cannot preserve his reputation (jāh) as one of the 'elders of the nation' (shuyūkh al-milla) when his grandchildren marry like paupers. Written on a narrow piece of parchment with recto and verso at 90 degrees to each other (this may be a sign of disrespect). No names preserved. (Information mainly from CUDL and Goitein's index card.)
