חלקה העליון של איגרת ששלח שלמה בן יהודה מירושלים אל זקני קהילת הירושלמים (הפלסטינים) באלכסנדריה, ובמיוחד אל החזן שלה בן משה. לעניין התיארוך: גיל ופרנקל הציעו את שנת 1025 לסה"נ, אך הדבר אינו מתיישב היטב עם האירועים הנזכרים באיגרת, ונראה סביר יותר לתארכה לסוף שנות השלושים או לשנות הארבעים של המאה האחת-עשרה. האיגרת עוסקת בתלונה קודמת שהגישה קהילת אלכסנדריה נגד ישועה הכהן החבר בן יוסף, ושלמה בן יהודה נוזף בו ("אם אמת הדבר שאמרתם") על שהוא ממעיט בכבוד התואר "חבר". שלמה בן יהודה מציין כי על ישועה להיות אסיר תודה על שזכה ל"מה שלא זכו לו לא אביו (יוסף) ולא סבו (ישועה)", כלומר תואר החבר. הוא מותיר בידי הנמענים את ההחלטה אם ברצונם להמשיך ולהחזיק בישועה כמנהיגם הקהילתי או לא. בהמשך הוא דוחה את המלצתו של סהלאן בן אברהם להעניק את תואר החבר ל"חזן" (ככל הנראה הכוונה לשלה בן משה עצמו), ככל הנראה בשל ליקויים באופיו של החזן. קשורה לאיגרת נוספת מאותו הקשר (PGPID 1650).

Princeton Geniza Project description: Upper part of a letter from Shelomo b. Yehuda, in Jerusalem, to the elders of the Palestinian congregation of Alexandria, specifically to the cantor Shela b. Moshe. Dating: Gil and Frenkel suggest 1025 CE, however this seems inconsistent with the events mentioned; late 1030s or 1040s seems more plausible. The letter deals with a prior complaint from the congregation in Alexandria against Yeshuʿa ha-Kohen he-Ḥaver b. Yosef and reprimands him ("if what you have said is true") for degrading the title of ḥaver. Shelomo b. Yehuda notes that Yeshuʿa should be grateful for achieving "that which neither his father (Yosef) nor his grandfather (Yeshuʿa) achieved," i.e., the title of ḥaver. He offers the addressees the choice of whether they wish to continue with Yeshuʿa as their communal leader or not. He then rejects the recommendation from Sahlān b. Avraham that "the cantor" (likely referring to Shela b. Moshe) be granted the title of ḥaver, apparently due to deficits in his own character. Related to T-S 12.328 (PGPID 1650).
