תיאור

עצומה מאת טאהר בן אסחאק, איש עני מאלכסנדריה, אל האמיר קראקוש בהאא אלדין בן עבדאללה אלאסדי (הניסבה שלו נגזרת מהיותו ממלוכּ של הוזיר הפאטמי המנוח אסד אלדין שירכוה). המעתיר, טאהר, שכר חנות באלכסנדריה מאדם נוצרי ושילם את כל תשלומי דמי השכירות; הוא מבקש להשתחרר מתשלום נוסף. תיארוך: בקירוב 1199–1200, בתקופה שבה כיהן קראקוש כעוצר עבור נכדו של צלאח אלדין, אלמלכ אלמנצור, ולפני 1201 לסה"נ, אז נמלט קראקוש משום שדודו של אלמלכ אלמנצור, אלמלכ אלאפצ'ל, נטל לידיו את העוצרות; קראקוש מת בשנת 597/1201. בשולי הצד הקדמי מופיע קטע בערבית-יהודית על ייחודו של האל ועל כך שברא את הארץ והשמים, אך הוא עצמו לא נברא. בצד האחורי מופיעים גושי טקסט מבודדים שהועתקו ככל הנראה כתרגיל כתיבה, ובהם פסקאות ליטורגיות וציטוטים מקראיים בעברית, וכן המשך הקטע הערבי-יהודי שבצד הקדמי.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Petition from Ṭāhir b. Isḥāq, a poor man from Alexandria, to the amir Qarāqūsh Bahāʾ ai-Dīn b. ʿAbdallāh al-Asadī (his nisba derives from his having been a mamlūk of the late Fatimid vizier Asad ai-Din Shirkūh). The petitioner, Ṭāhir, had rented a shop in Alexandria from a Christian and paid all the installments of rent; he would like to be released from further payment. Dating: ca. 1199–1200, when Qarāqūsh served as regent for the grandson of Saladin, al-Malik al-Manṣūr, and before 1201 CE, when Qarāqūsh fled because al-Malik al-Manṣūr's uncle, aI-Malik al-Afḍal, took over the regency; Qaraqūsh died in 597/1201. On the margins of recto there is a Judaeo-Arabic passage on the uniqueness of God on the fact that he created the earth and the sky, but was not created Himself. On verso there are isolated blocks of text probably copied as a writing exercise, they include liturgical paragraphs and biblical quotations in Hebrew and the continuation of the Judaeo-Arabic text on recto.
