מכתב בערבית-יהודית בכתב יד גולמי. האיות קרוב לערבית הקלאסית יותר מהמקובל (למשל שיא במקום شيء). שני הדפים היו במקור שני דפים נפרדים (ולא דף אחד שנקרע לשניים), שכן הרקטו של דף 2 הוא ההמשך הישיר של הוורסו של דף 1. הכותב הוא סוחר המונה שורה של חומרי רפואה (אותם הוא מכנה "אח'באר עטריה"). החלק המרכזי במכתב, אותו תמלל גויטיין, מתאר את האירועים המבעיתים שעברו על הכותב במהלך הפלגה. הוא הותקף באישון לילה, וחגורת הכסף שלו (חמיאן) נכרכה סביב צווארו. הוא זעק לעזרה אל המוסלמים שסביבו, ומחמד אלנג'אר אלאשבילי הוא זה ששחרר אותו.
Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter. In Judaeo-Arabic. Rudimentary hand. The spellings are closer to classical Arabic than usual (e.g. שיא for شيء). The two folios were originally two folios (i.e. not a single folio that was torn in half), because the recto of folio 2 is the direct continuation of the verso of folio 1. The writer is a merchant who lists a number of materia medica (he calls them 'akhbār ʿiṭriyya'). The part of the letter that Goitein typed is the middle portion relating the harrowing events that befell the writer on a boat journey. The writer was attacked in the dead of night and his belt (himyān) was tied around his neck. He cried for help to the Muslims around him, and Muḥammad al-Najjār al-Ishbīlī set him free.
