חלקה התחתון של איגרת בכתב ידו של הלל בן עלי (פעיל בין 1066–1108 לסה"נ). רובה בערבית-יהודית. הכותב מתאר את מצוקתו הגדולה — עוניו, בני ביתו התלויים בו, ופחדו מפני גובי המיסים. הוא מדגיש את נאמנותו לנמען ומציין כי הוא מתפלל בעבורו בכל שבת, לאחר שהוא מתפלל לעילוי נשמתם של "אדוננו" המנוח ואבותיו. הוא מדווח כי כבר ביקש טובה מ"מולאי אלחמדה" אברהם בן נתן השביעי. פרטי העניין אינם ברורים לחלוטין, אך נראה כי אדם מסוים ו/או קהילה כלשהי קמו נגדו. הוא מצטט את ישעיהו ס"ה, א' בהתייחסו לעצמו (ומייחס בטעות את הפסוק לירמיהו): "נדרשתי ללוא שאלו, נמצאתי ללא בקשוני, אמרתי הנני הנני אל גוי לא קורא בשמי". בשוליים הוא מציין כי הוא מנשק את ידו של הנמען. Princeton Geniza Project description: Lower part of a letter in the hand of Hillel b. ʿEli (fl. 1066–1108 CE). Mainly in Judaeo-Arabic. He describes his great distress (poverty, dependents, fear from the tax collectors); emphasizes his loyalty to the addressee and that he prays for him every Shabbat after praying for the souls of the late 'adonenu' and his ancestors. He reports that he has already requested a favor from 'my master al-ḥemdat' Avraham b. Natan ha-Sheviʿi. The precise issue is unclear but it seems that somebody and/or a congregation have turned against him. He quotes Isaiah 65:1 in reference to himself (mistakenly attributing the verse to Jeremiah), "I gave access to them that asked not for me, I was at hand to them that sought me not; I said: 'Behold me, behold me', unto a nation that was not called by my name."
