מכתב מאישה בשם מלִיחה, השוהה בביזנטיון (המכונה רומניאה/רומאניאה), אל אחיה אבו סעיד ושלמה, כנראה במצרים. המכתב כתוב בעברית. היא כותבת על געגועיה אליהם ומתלוננת ששניהם לא טרחו להביא אותה ואת בתה זואי (זואי) מביזנטיון. היא גם מתגעגעת ל"אדוננו הרביעי" (הרביעי). מליחה מזכירה לאחיה שזה מנהג הקהילות הביזנטיות שבני המשפחה נוסעים בעצמם כדי להחזיר כל קרוב משפחה שנפל בשבי. היא מבקשת לשוב לארץ מולדתה; ואולם, היא מוסיפה: "הסתכלתי בספר התורה, והוא הראה לי שמזלי רע ושלא אצליח; על כן לא יכולתי לבוא יחד עם נושאי המכתב".
Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from a woman named Malīḥa, in Byzantium (called Romaniya/רומניאה), to her brothers Abū Saʿīd and Shelomo, probably in Egypt. In Hebrew. She writes of her longing for them and complains that neither of them has made the effort to bring her and her daughter Zoe (זואי) from Byzantium. She also misses ‘our lord the fourth' (ha-reviʿi). She reminds them that it is the custom of Byzantine communities to travel in person to bring back any family member who is taken captive. She wants to return to her homeland; however, she adds, “I looked into the Torah scroll, which showed me that my luck was bad and that I would not be successful; therefore, I could not come together with the bearers of the letter.” (S.
