מכתב מאת יהודי דובר יוונית אל אישה בפוסטאט. תחילת המכתב חסרה, ואי אפשר לשחזר את נסיבותיו של הכותב. נראה שהוא כותב לאשתו בפוסטאט. ייתכן שהוא נמצא במסע עם קבוצת אנשים נוספים, וכי עברו עליהם תלאות מסוג כלשהו. לא ברור היכן הוא שוהה — אפשר שבסאיט (שורה 4); מכל מקום נראה כי המקום נמצא מעבר לאלכסנדריה מנקודת מבטו של מי שכותב מפוסטאט (שורה 15). מספר סימנים מעידים על כך שהכותב הוא דובר יוונית, והבולט שבהם הוא הכינוי "האמייל" (שורה 18), המופיע ביוונית. שזה אינו רק כינוי או ביטוי שאול מתבטא בכך שהמילה ניתנת עם תווית היידוע היוונית, ובצורת היחסה האקוזטיבית כמתבקש מן ההקשר. גם הכתיב של "אלכסנדריה" הוא יווני אופייני. העברית של הכותב מגלה סימנים שונים להשפעת היוונית המדוברת (ראו ההערות). יש להניח שגם הנמענת היא דוברת יוונית, שאם לא כן לא הייתה מבינה את הביטוי היווני שבשורה 18.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from a Greek-speaking Jewish man to a woman in Fustat. "The beginning of the letter is missing, and it is impossible to reconstruct the circumstances of the writer. He is writing apparently to his wife in Fustat. He may be on a journey with a group of other people, and they seem to have undergone some misfortune. It is not clear where he is — perhaps in Saite (l. 4); at any rate it seems to be beyond Alexandria for someone writing from Fustat (l. 15). A number of features indicate that the writer is a Greek-speaker, of which the most concrete is the epithet "the enameller" (l. 18), which is given in Greek. That this is not merely a nickname or a calqued expression is clear from the fact that it is given with the Greek definite article, and in the accusative case to suit the context. The spelling of "Alexandria" is also typically Greek. The writer's Hebrew reveals various signs of the influence of spoken Greek (see the notes).
