מכתב (או טיוטת מכתב) מאדם בשם ח[לפון] (?) אל שמריהו בן דוד — שמו העברי של מצ'מון בן דוד — ובו בקשה למינוי לתפקיד דתי. נכתב במצרים, לאחר שנת 1213. הכותב מסביר כי אין ביכולתו לעבוד בשל חולשת ראייתו. כתב היד דומה לזה של משה בן לוי (נפטר ב-1212), וייתכן שהוא זה שכתב את המכתב מטעם המבקש — אך זוהי השערה בלבד. במכתב משמשים התארים "הנגיד הגדול", "נגיד הנגידים" ו"ראש החסידים". תארים אלה אינם מתועדים במקום אחר ביחס לתימן, אך הם משמשים במצרים כתאריו של אברהם מימוני. ייתכן אפוא שהסופר המצרי העביר את תאריו של אברהם מימוני אל מקבילו התימני (לפי גויטיין ופרידמן).
Princeton Geniza Project description: IB II, 68. Letter (or draft of letter) from a certain Ḥ[alfon] (?) to Shemaryāhū b. David (i.e. the Hebrew name of Maḍmūn b. David) requesting an appointment as a religious functionary. Egypt, after 1213. The writer cannot work because of his weak vision. The handwriting resembles that of Moshe b. Levi (d. 1212), who may have written the letter on behalf of the petitioner—but this is speculative. ASE. The letter uses the titles ha-nagid ha-gadol, negid ha-negidim, and rosh ha-ḥasidim. These titles are unattested otherwise for Yemen but are used in Egypt as titles for Avraham Maimuni. It is possible that the Egyptian scribe transferred Abraham Maimuni's titles to his Yemenite counterpart. (Information from Goitein and Friedman, India Traders (2008), 522).
