מכתב מאת כותב לא ידוע, ככל הנראה מעזה או מסביבות ירושלים, אל ישמעאל בפוסטאט/קהיר. בעברית. תאריך: המחצית השנייה של המאה ה-16. הכותב מתאר את הרדיפות שספג מידי שופטים ושוטרים בארץ ישראל, ובפרט בעיר עזה. הפרשה החלה בחוב שהיה חייב לכותב שאוויש/צ'אווש (קצין עות'מאני), אשר הכחיש כי הוא חייב דבר (שו' 10–12 בצד ר). העניין הובא לפני שופט מירושלים שהגיע לעזה (שו' 10 בצד ר), ובזכות שוחד ועדי שקר נפסק הדין כנגד הכותב (שו' 12–15 בצד ר). השאוויש המשיך לרדוף את הכותב ואיים עליו במאסר או בהסגרה לדמשק כדי להביא את עניינו לפני הבאשא שם (שו' 15–18 בצד ר). השאוויש טען שהכותב חייב לו 427 מטבעות זהב ונציאניים (פרחים בנאדקה) (שו' 32–33 בצד ר). אולם קהילת עזה נחלצה לעזרת הכותב והסכימה לערוב להלוואה (שו' 28 בצד ר; שו' 14 בצד ו) שיצטרך ליטול כדי לשלם לאנשים שונים ולהימנע מגרירתו לדמשק (שו' 19–31 בצד ר). הכותב מצוי כעת במצוקה כלכלית בלתי נסבלת (שו' 31 בצד ר; שו' 6 בצד ו) ומבקש מהנמען לסייע לו להחזיר את חובותיו לקהילת עזה (שו' 7–38 בצד ו). הכותב פנה גם אל יעקב די וילאריאל ומשה פורח(?) בבקשת סיוע בהעברת הכספים (שו' 22–25 בצד ו). המידע מבוסס על מהדורתו של אברהם דוד.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from an unknown writer, either in Gaza or near Jerusalem, to Yishmaʿel, in Fustat/Cairo. In Hebrew. Dating: Second half of the 16th century. The writer describes his persecution at the hands of judges and police in Palestine, specifically in the city of Gaza. It began with a debt owed to the writer by a shāwīsh/çavuş, who denied owing anything (r10–12). The matter came before a judge from Jerusalem, who came to Gaza (r10), and, thanks to bribes and false witnesses, ruled against the writer (r12–15). The shāwīsh continued persecuting the writer, trheatening him with imprisonment or extradition to Damascus for the sake of bringing the case before the Basha there (r15–18). The shāwīsh maintained that the writer owed him 427 Venetian gold coins (peraḥim banādiqa) (r32–33). But the community of Gaza came to the rescue of the writer and agreed to stand security for the loan (r28, v14) that he would need to take out in order to pay off various people to avoid being dragged off to Damascus (r19–31). The writer is now in unbearable financial straits (r31, v6) and asks the addressee to help defray his debts to the community of Gaza (v7–38).
