מכתב כמעט שלם בערבית, שנכתב בידי סופר מוסלמי (מסתיים בצַלוַלה — תפילות לנביא מוחמד), ונשלח אל אדם הקרוב לסוחר ההודי והנגיד מצמון בן אלחסן (פעיל בשנים 1131–1151). אזכורו של הנאח'וד'א אבו עבדאללה (בן אבו אלחסן) אבן אבי אלכתאא'ב מספק תאריך גבול עליון של 1146 (ראו India Traders, עמ' 149). לרוע המזל, פתיחת המכתב והכתובת אבדו. הכותב מדווח על פגישתו עם [אבו?] אלפרג' בן אלסרור, ועל כך שנודע לו כי הנמען הפנה את עסקיו (? תכליפך) אל המערב (בלאד אלע'רב), ונותר ללא קשרים חזקים בהודו (בלאד אלהנד). בהמשך הוא מעלה את שמו של מצמון בן אלחסן ו(כפי הנראה) מציין כיצד העניק מצמון לנמען חסד רב יותר מאשר לאחרים. לאחר מכן הוא מסביר מדוע לא היה ביכולתו לנסוע: עבדו האפריקאי המזרחי (אלעבד אלזנג'י) מת, ואילו העבד ה[הו]די שהיה איתו בשִׁנְגְ'לִי (شنجلي) (קוֹדוּנְגַלוּר של ימינו) כבר עזב... "ונשארתי מנותק" (? ובקית מנקטע). למרות זאת, מצבו טוב (קלבי טיב), והוא מבקש טובה ממצמון. בשוליים הוא מזכיר את בעל האונייה (נאח'וד'א) אבו עבד אלקהאר (? מילה זו אינה ודאית) אבו אל-כ[...]. ראוי לבחינה נוספת.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Nearly complete letter in Arabic, written by a Muslim scribe (concludes with a ṣalwala - prayers for the prophet Muhammad), sent to somebody close to the India trader and Nagid Maḍmūn b. al-Ḥasan (active 1131–51). The mention of the nākhudā Abū ʿAbdallāh (b. Abū l-Ḥasan) Ibn Abī l-Katāʾib provides a terminus ante quem of 1146 (see India Traders, p. 149). Unfortunately, the beginning of the letter and the address are lost. The writer reports meeting with [Abū?] l-Faraj b. al-Surūr and learning that the addressee had directed his business (? taklīfak) to the West (bilād al-gharb) and has been left without strong connections in India (bilād al-hind). He then brings up Maḍmūn b. al-Ḥasan and (it seems) how Maḍmūn has bestowed his favor on the addressee more than on others. He then explains why he has been unable to travel: his East African slave (al-ʿabd al-zanjī) died, and the [In]dian slave who was with him in Shingli (شنجلي) (present-day Kodungallur) had already departed. . . . "and I remained cut off" (? wa-baqītu munqaṭiʿ). Despite this, he is doing well (qalbī ṭayyib), and he requests a favor from Maḍmūn. In the margin he mentions the ship-owner (nākhudhā) Abū ʿAbd al-Qahhār (? this word is uncertain) Abū l-K[...]. Merits further examination. ASE.
