תיאור

מכתב מאדם בשם הִבַּתאללה אל הרופא אלשיח' אלת'קה אבו אלפצ'ל בפיום. מאחר שאדם זה עצמו מקבל ברכת שלום נפרדת בגוף המכתב, ברור כי הנמען המרכזי הוא אדם אחר — קרוב משפחה או מקורב שלו. המכתב כתוב בערבית-יהודית, והכתובת על גביו בכתב ערבי. תיארוך: המאה ה-13. במכתב מדווח על מחירים נמוכים במיוחד של חיטה בקהיר, ומסופר סיפור על לחם שלא נמכר. בנוסף, ישנן רשימות והערות מאוחרות יותר בצד האחורי, ככל הנראה באותה יד שכתבה את המכתב, ובהן רשימת שמות בכתב ערבי (בַּרַכַּאת, אסמאעיל, אבו סעד ואבו אלפרג'), וכן סיפור חלקי בערבית-יהודית שבו נמסר כי מישהו נהג לספר "לי ולמורי ולרב חננאל" כי "בימי המלך ארדשיר...". כמו כן מופיעים ניסיונות קולמוס בשני צדי המסמך, בכתב יד שונה.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from a certain Hibatallāh to the physician al-Shaykh al-Thiqa Abū l-Faḍl in the Fayyum. Since this person is independently greeted in the body of the letter, the main addressee must be someone else, presumably a family member or associate of his. In Judaeo-Arabic, with the address in Arabic script. Dating: 13th century. Reports very low prices of wheat in Cairo and a story of unsold bread. There are also subsequent jottings on verso apparently in the same hand as the letter, including a list of names in Arabic script (Barakāt, Ismāʿīl, Abū Saʿd, and Abū l-Faraj) and a partial story in Judaeo-Arabic stating that someone used to tell "me and my teacher and Rav Ḥananʾel" that "in the days of the king Ardashīr...."
