מכתב בערבית-יהודית, בכתב יד נאה. נראה כי אותו סופר השתמש שוב במסמכים רבים בכתב ערבי לכתיבת טקסטים ספרותיים/ליטורגיים (ראו הצעות לחיבור). המכתב נועד להישלח מפוסטאט לנמען שהפליג זה מקרוב מאלכסנדריה (כנראה מדובר בטיוטה, או שהמכתב מעולם לא נשלח). הוא נפתח בציטוט מירמיהו י"ז, ז'. ימים אחדים לאחר שהנמען (או הנמענים) הפליגו מאלכסנדריה, הגיע בנו של אלפצ'ל אבן סברה "טובע" (ע'ארק), דבר שהסב צער לכולם (האם ניצל מטביעת ספינה?). השולח מדווח שהנילוס השלים את עלייתו (אלמא קד אופא) ב"5 מתוך 17", ככל הנראה במשמעות של 5 אצבעות פחות מ-17 אמות. (לפי קריסטין צ'אליאן-דאפנר, אמה עד גובה של שתים-עשרה אמות חולקה לעשרים ושמונה אצבעות והייתה שווה לכ-54 ס"מ, ואילו אמה מעל גובה של שתים-עשרה אמות כללה עשרים וארבע אצבעות והייתה שווה לכ-46 ס"מ.) השולח מדווח שהכול במצרים מושלם תחת השליט (אלמסתנצר או וזיר?), שכל יום נכבשים בידיו שטחים חדשים, שטבעו עבורו מטבעות, "ואלדעוה פי מכות" (ביטוי קשה להבנה — האם הכוונה לכך שהדעוה הפאטמית "שוכנת במקומה"?), ושכוחותיו הגיעו עד MSYD אלרדיני (אולי מנית אלרדיני שבמחוז שרקיה בדלתא של הנילוס?). לחלופין, ייתכן שMSYD הוא איות עממי או איות מכוון משובש של מסג'ד; אלמקריזי וכרוניקנים נוספים מזכירים מסג'ד אלרדיני באתר שלימים הפך למצודת קהיר.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter in Judaeo-Arabic. In a lovely hand; the same scribe seems to have reused numerous Arabic-script documents for literary/liturgical text (see Joins Suggestions). This letter was intended to be sent from Fustat to an addressee who had recently set sail from Alexandria (presumably this is a draft or it was never sent). The letter opens with a quotation from Jeremiah 17:7. A few days after the addressee(s) set out to sea from Alexandria, the son of al-Faḍl Ibn Sabra arrived "drowning" (ghāriq), which caused distress to everybody (did he survive a shipwreck?). The sender reports that the Nile completed its flood (al-māʾ qad awfā) at "5 from 17," which probably means 5 fingers short of 17 cubits. ("A cubit until the height of twelve cubits was divided into twenty-eight fingers, and equaled 0,539m≈54cm. A cubit above the height of twelve cubits consisted of twenty-four fingers, and equaled 0,462m≈46cm," per Kristine Chalyan-Daffner, "Socio-Cultural Attitudes to the Flooding of the Nile (13th–16th Centuries)" (2015).) The sender reports that everything in Egypt is perfect under the ruler (al-Mustanṣir or a vizier?), that new territory is conquered by him every day, that coins have been minted for him, ואלדעוה פי מכות (this phrase is difficult to understand—does it refer to the Fatimid Daʿwa being "in residence"?), and his forces have reached as far as MSYD al-Rudaynī (Minyat al-Rudaynī in the Sharqiyya district in the Nile Delta?). Alternatively MSYD may be a colloquial spelling (cf. F 1908.44i (PGPID 5270) r24) or deliberate misspelling of masjid; al-Maqrīzī and other chroniclers mention a Masjid al-Rudaynī at the site that later became the Cairo Citadel. ASE
