מכתב מאת אישיות יהודית מכובדת ששימשה בעבר כשר האוצר במצרים, אך הודחה מתפקידה ונכלאה, וכעת היא פונה לקהילה היהודית בקונסטנטינופול בבקשת סיוע. המכתב כתוב בעברית. הסופר מאיית מילים יווניות באותיות עבריות מנוקדות: "το πατριαρχη" (הפטריארך) וכן "εἰστό Ταμίαθι" (בטמיאת'י = דמיאט = כפתור). תאריך משוער: זמן קצר לאחר 1111 לסה"נ (מועד פטירתו של הנגיד מבורך בן סעדיה). המכתב הארוך מאוד נפתח בשורות רבות של שירה ודברי ברכה לקהילת קונסטנטינופול, ולאחר מכן מתאר הכותב את נפילתו מחסד השלטון וכיצד הוחלף בידי שר אוצר נוצרי חדש. במכתב מתואר גם מינויו של הנגיד מבורך בן סעדיה ז"ל בידי הווזיר אלאפצ'ל, וכן ההערכה הרבה שזכה לה בחצר השלטון. ככל הנראה מותו של הנגיד הותיר את הכותב ויהודים אחרים בעמדות בכירות חשופים לתככי החצר. הוא ממשיך: "השליכוני בבור... מעשיי הטובים ידועים בין הרבנים והקראים... לא נכנסתי לשרת את המלך אלא כדי שלא אצטרך לצדקה מבני אדם ולא ליטול מאומה מן היהודים, אלא לפרנס את עצמי ולהיטיב לישראל מן הטובה שעושה לי האל... אבי היה משרת את השלטון בעיר אלכסנדריה. הוא היה (ממונה) על שער הים (באב אלבחר) כחמש עשרה שנה, וכל הסוחרים הבאים מארץ אדום (ביזנטיון) ומן המזרח ומן המערב...". איחוי (ייתכן בלתי ישיר): אלן אלבאום.

Princeton Geniza Project description: Letter from a Jewish notable who had previously been minister of finance in Egypt, subsequently disgraced and imprisoned, who now seeks assistance from the Jewish community in Constantinople. In Hebrew. The scribe spells out Greek words in vocalized Hebrew script: "το πατριαρχη" (the patriarch) and "εἰστό Ταμίαθι" (in Tamiathi = Damietta = Kaftor). Dating: soon after 1111 CE (when Mevorakh b. Saʿadya died). This very long letter begins with many lines of poetry and greetings to the Constantinople community, after which the writer describes his fall from favor and how he has now been supplanted by a new Christian minister of finance. The recently deceased Nagid Mevorakh b. Saʿadya's elevation by the Vizier al-Afḍal is described, and the very high regard in which he was held at court. The Nagid's death had presumably left the writer and other Jews in high positions exposed to court intrigue. It continues: "They threw me in the pit. . . . My good deeds are known among the Rabbanites and the Qaraites. . . I only entered the service of the king in order to not need charity from people or take anything from Jews, rather to support myself and bring good to Israel from the good that God does for me. . . . My father used to serve the government in the city of Alexandria. He was (appointed) over the Sea Gate (Shaʿar ha-Yam = Bāb al-Baḥr) about 15 years, and all the traders coming from the land of Edom (Byzantium) and the East and the West. . . ."
